Description

Production Managing is challenging, exciting and a critical role for any production. Making the step up to PM can be daunting for any PC as you hone your already excellent organisational and logistical skills further and develop your managerial and leadership abilities. Whatever genre you work in, this modular course will furnish you with a thorough knowledge base of the critical skills necessary to become an excellent and effective PM. Using interactive seminars, practical exercises, workshops and industry examples, you will come away a strong foundation with which to build your career further and excel as a PM.

Course content: The course will break down into 5 modules to be run across 5 Saturdays. Course participants can pick and choose the number of modules to attend, but it is recommended for those with minimal expereince to book the Introduction Module 1.

Module 3 - 20th July 2016

Health and Safety

  • Interactive seminar on importance of health and safety and the responsibility of a Production Manager
  • Why it matters - case studies of accidents on set
  • Practical exercise determining health and safety requirements across various scenarios
  • Review and critique of exercise
  • Q and A

Risk Assessing

  • What is a risk assessment – interactive seminar with industry examples
  • How to assess and write one
  • Hazards and risks
  • Control measures and personal responsibility
  • Group work to assess several filming scenarios, identify the associated hazards and risks and to put in place practical steps and control measures to minimize risk of accident/injury
  • Review and critique of work
  • Accident/Near miss reporting – how to do it and why it matters
  • Q and A

Stunts, one-offs and events

  • Seminar on key considerations when filming a stunt based on real life examples
  • Group work to identify hazards and risks associated with various scenarios
  • Review and critique of work
  • Interactive session on key responsibilities of the Production Manager
  • Introduction to filming techniques employed to work safely and still make the scenario/stunt look “dangerous”
  • Rain bars/wind turbines/working on or in water/Driving sequences/Drones/Working at Height/Helicopters/Trains/Fight sequences/Night sequences/Location and abroad filming – interactive session using real-life industry examples on the basics of working safely and resources available.
  • Q and A

Legal Requirements and insurance

  • Group exercise to ascertain why insurance is critical
  • Introduction to core legal requirements for a production
  • Seminar on key issues and how to deal with insurance claims

Car parking: The Greenhouse does not have its own car park but there is a multi story car park signposted off Broadway, which is the main road to MediaCityUK (coins, notes or pay-by-mobile)

if you are using public transport:

Trains from Victoria or Piccadilly stations link you direct to the Tram network, and you can get a MediaCityUK tram straight to the location, The Greenhouse is a 5 minute walk from the Tram stop.

Alternatively you can also get the number 50 bus from Manchester Oxford Road to MediaCityUK.

Cancellation Policy

We appreciate that when circumstances change you may no longer be able to attend a training course date you have already booked and paid for.

Whilst we will always try our best to accommodate any alterations to your plans, BECTU has a standard cancellation policy which is as follows:

if you notify us (phone/email) 3 full days or longer before the scheduled course date you will not be charged and will be refunded in full any course fees you have paid.
for any cancellation you make that is less than 3 full days before the course date, you will be charged 50% of the total course fee with 50% refunded. This is unless you can demonstrate to us extenuating circumstances.
if you do not attend the course and/or fail to notify us in advance you will be charged the full course fee.
we are unable to reimburse any non-transferable travel or accommodation expenses that may arise from a course being re-scheduled or cancelled.
BECTU reserves the right to cancel courses without liability. However, where possible, delegates will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.

We understand that circumstances may occur which mean you, the delegate, need to reschedule a training date. We will do our best to accommodate your needs but our standard cancellation policy is: • For cancellation less than 72 hours before the course date, 50% of the course value will be charged and 50% refunded unless you can show extenuating circumstances. • No charge will be made with notifications of 72 hours or longer and a full refund will be issued. • Non attendance – no refund. Should course cancellation become necessary, we will attempt to notify registrants at least one week prior to the scheduled training start date. We are unable to refund any non-transferable travel expenses that may arise from a course reschedule or cancellation. BECTU reserves the right to cancel courses without liability, in these circumstances delegates will be offered an alternative date or full refund.
